Put an end to popup web ads

NoAds is a completely free security companion developed by SouthBayPC that stops pop-up web ads. This program allows you to visit web pages without annoying ads interrupting your session. It is easy to use and is fully configurable, empowering you to specify which ads to stop.

Moreover, it works while staying hidden in your system tray. NoAds supports Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, and AOL. Note, however, that it can't stop messenger service ads as a different program from the same developer is devoted to disrupting it called Stop Messenger Service Ads.

What NoAds offers

NoAds stops pop-up web ads from getting in your way whenever you browse the internet. As noted, the app is free, lightweight, and very easy to use. Upon installation, it defines an auto-registry entry, which enables the program to run on each boot for the users. It is also configurable, letting you specify the pop-ups that you want to stop automatically. Despite being a simple app, it comes with a tutorial, making it a cinch even for a beginner to use.

However, despite having a loaded list of common popup-ads to target—such as those coming from Angelfire home pages—it still performs poorly compared to popular, free ad blocking programs, such as AdBlock and uBlock. It permits most ads that you can encounter in an average surfing session. To make it worse, the app is utterly powerless against banner and Flash ads

Although it authorizes you to add a new target to its database, the process is quite complicated and inconvenient that users will abandon it before completion. Moreover, it does not have a white list or any option that can set up specific pop-ups. It can only stop any simple ads that can crop up while you browse.

Plain layout

The entire user interface of NoAds is built around its three general tabs—the standard Internet Explorer ad-blocking list, the ‘Wildcard titles’, and ‘America Online.' The screen interface is divided into two sections—the upper and lower panel. In the upper panel, you'll often see your currently opened windows while the lower panel, on the other hand, presents your targeted windows. Through this, you'll have a better view when it comes to the windows the suite can close and are granted to be.

Its plain and simple layout design makes the ad-blocker tool easy to use. However, it feels outdated at the same time. There will be no running app or even a prompted window wherein you can add in the ad prevention service's target list. Most of the time, you will do all the tasks manually which can take a lot of time and effort.

For occasional web surfers only

NoAds is a helpful tool to have if you don’t want pop-up ads interrupting you as you surf. The app is simple to use and stops common pop-ups. It also supports multiple browsers and works in the background. However, despite its few pluses, it still performs poorly as it cannot stop other types of ads. While it is helpful, it is not a viable solution if you constantly surf the internet.
